Businesses can be fired by their customers instantly, and employees by their bosses. It is only the government that takes money without giving value and forces its will on people that don't choose it.
This is why limited government is important.
Does this help you make a little more sense of the Progressive agenda? I could write for hours but will refrain my comments to this:
These well meaning people obviously think that money just exists and that business owners and the wealthy just naturally and unfairly have money when others just don't.

They believe that it is the job of the business owner to offer benefits and higher wages and an environment that will make people happy with their positions. And they are right, we should... in fact, we have to.
As a business owner I have to compete with other business owners for employees or they will run to another company that they enjoy working in more or that pays them better wages and benefits. So I have good news for the Democratic Socialists... they no longer have to fight for us to do so, the free market and the freedoms of the workers to work wherever they wish take care of this problem already. So that part of their job is done... in fact, the problem never existed.
There is this one little pesky thing about owning a business. That's having customers. The funny thing about customers is that they don't come and give you money in exchange for nothing. They demand something of value that you have to not only create, but create with a competitive advantage over your competition.
Then there is the fact that the customers don't just give you unlimited money for your value once you have spent endless days and years of failure, trial and error and risk to achieve. You actually have to compete with others with similar ambition and products for the business of your customers. And that limits the amount of money that you bring in.
Then there are operating costs,research and development, taxes, wages and taxes and taxes and taxes to pay... and companies must balance this out in a way that somehow squeaks out a profit with the company taking all the risk day by day, week by week and year by year.
Yes, we fight to make our company a great place to work. Yes we want to pay our employees as much as we can but we must realize that this pesky little thing called money is not in unlimited supply and just as we as business owners have to earn it every day, so we must require that our employees help us earn that money and keep the doors open that allow them to work, to have a job and a place to count on for the needs of themselves and their families.
What would this world be like if people understood basic Economics? What would Obama's administration be like if he had a single business person in his administration or more than 3 people that have ever held a private sector job.
The bottom line is that we are all responsible for creating value in Society. Businesses create value for their customers, employees for their employers and customers bring value to the businesses they choose to trade with in the form of money. It is this kind of exchange of value happening day in and day out has built everything you see around you.

Government, on the other hand, has no responsibility to create value. They impose their will by law and "create revenue" by taxing at the threat of gunpoint and prison. Our only redress is to get 50.1% of people to vote them out every 2 to 6 years and often to choose another career politician with a different spin on the same methods.
