12.8.11

[We as Texans should be very grateful to Barbara Cargill who has decided to run for re-election to the Texas State Board of Education. She is one of the six conservatives presently on the SBOE who is leading our state into true education reform. As chairman of the SBOE, she has already demonstrated “grace under fire” and has continued the good work done by Gail Lowe, the past SBOE chair. Barbara is calm, organized, fair, kind, and knowledgeable. Please consider sending Barbara a campaign donation to make sure she is able to continue her service to the 4.7 million Texas children who are depending upon her. – Donna Garner]

12.8.11 BARBARA CARGILL, CHAIR OF TEXAS STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION FILES FOR RE-ELECTION

Dear Friends and Supporters,

It is with great enthusiasm that I tell you that I have filed for re-election to the State Board of Education!  My family is very supportive; after prayer and discussion, we all agreed this was the right thing to do.  Also, after talking with many of you in my twenty-four counties, I feel your support and encouragement to continue my role in impacting the education of our precious schoolchildren.  I cannot tell you how much that means to me.

As your State Board of Education member, these are a few highlights of my 7 years of service:

                *Appointed by Governor Perry to serve as Chair of the Board in July 2011

                *Elected twice by fellow Board members to serve as Chair of the Committee on Instruction

                *Worked tirelessly to develop state curriculum standards that are concise, measurable and rigorous

Here are examples of what I have supported and voted for:

                                Standards that emphasize grammar, phonics, handwriting, spelling, and composition skills as well as a focus on serious literature in English classes;

                                A curriculum that teaches the fundamental skills of mathematics such as memorizing the multiplication/division tables and discouraging the use of calculators in elementary school;

                                History curriculum standards that emphasize patriotism, the free enterprise system, our Founding Fathers, founding documents like the U.S. Constitution, and American exceptionalism;

                                Health textbooks that uphold traditional definitions of marriage and family and abstinence-based sex education;

                                Science textbooks that encourage students to think, ask, and predict, have increased lab time, and that present evolution as a theory, not as fact;

                *Voted for textbooks which provide teachers and students with error-free, academically sound instructional materials;

            *Served on the Governor-appointed Commission for College Ready Texas to improve students’ college readiness.

It is my passion to continue the pursuit of excellence in public education in Texas.  I have been a strong conservative voice for children, parents, and teachers and have sent clear conservative messages through my careful votes.  These have proved my dedication to our school children.

Under the leadership of myself and Commissioner of Education Robert Scott, the Board is set to focus on much-needed improvements such as college and workplace readiness, quality classroom instruction supported by the best instructional materials, and academic success for every child.  It would be a privilege for me to continue to represent District 8 in this position!

I need your support to win re-election since I do have an opponent.  There are many ways that you can help.  First of all, it would be an honor to have you click this link (or copy it to your browser) to add your name to the endorsement list that appears on my website: www.barbaracargill.com/I.Endorse.Barbara.htm

If you would rather not have your name listed on the website, there are other ways that you can help by clicking this link instead (or copying it to your browser): www.barbaracargill.com/donations.htm

Please choose one of the options; any and all help is needed and appreciated!  Both links, photos, and other information are available on my website:  www.barbaracargill.com

As your State Board of Education member, I will continue my work for children by keeping the lines of communication open between the State Board and the Legislature to ensure that students’ best interests are served.

I will continue to work to improve academic rigor in our schools, to support the authority of teachers in the classroom, and to communicate with my 1.6 million constituents through public appearances and through my bi-monthly e-mail newsletter, The Cargill Connection.  I want you to be informed and to provide feedback about education issues — what you think matters to me!

Thank you, and have a blessed and joyful Christmas with family and friends.

Barbara Cargill, State Board of Education, District 8

Has any one heard of a "Stand with Israel" rally near East Texas?

American Laws for American Courts
The “American Laws for American Courts” bill is alive again in the Texas senate. This bill simply states:

“The legislature finds that it shall be the public policy of this state to protect it’s citizens from the application of foreign laws when the application of a foreign law will result in the violation of a right guaranteed by the constitution of this state or of the United States…..”

Texas Eagle Forum received a call from Representative Hilderbran’s office asking for help. Hilderbran and team were able to get the bill reintroduced as HB 79. They are asking us to mobilize once again and make calls to Senator Duncan and Lt Gov Dewhurst and ask them to concur with the bill.  When you call please use the word “concur.” We do not want the bill to go to committee where it will likely be voted out.
If you know anyone in the panhandle area of Texas, which is Senator Duncan’s district, please pass this on to them. Thanks again for your help.

People have to stand on there own 2 feet. No more institutional wailfare. The churches have always taken care of those the are hungary. That includes the socalled "war on drugs". It is just making jobs with no product. It is a joke and we all know it. We need to teach our kids. They are the ones who will change things. I think most americans are to soft. They target our kids to keep thing the same. Look at schools, how much of our work is wasted there and where is the product. There more but I will yall speake of them. "Do your best and teach the kids and we can't fail." Just do the work!

Would some one please tell me just 1 time that socialism worked? It sounds good but it is the road to destruction for all free people. Those who can do for there selfs must. Those whe can't can count on the church to help. WE CAN NOT TAKE CARE OF PEOPLE WHO CAN DO FOR THERE SELFS WITH OUT TAKING AWAY THAT HELP FROM THOSE WHO CAN NOT!

If the congress passes the Obama compromise tax bill, Dream Act, and or the Omnibus Spending bill then we need to start another political party of our own that truly represents us. Let's start calling it just "Tea or Texas Party Comittee or Community",TPC, and use a Lion as the party animal, symbol of power. There's more of us than there are of them, so let the games begin.

Our Congress In Action

Author unknown.

It was autumn, and the Indians on the reservation asked their new chief it it was going to be a cold winter. Raised in the ways of the modern world, the chief had never been taught the old secrets and had no way of knowing whether the winter would be cold or mild. To be on the safe side, he advised the tribe to collect wood and be prepared for a cold winter. A few days later, as a practical afterthought, he called the National Weather Service and asked whether they were forecasting a cold winter. The meteorologist replied that, indeed, he thought the winter would be quite cold. The chief advised the tribe to stock even more wood.
A couple of weeks later, the chief checked in again with the Weather Service. "Does it still look like a cold winter?" asked the chief.
"It sure does," replied the meteorologist. "It looks like a very cold winter." The chief advised the tribe to gather up every scrap of wood they could find.
A couple of weeks later, the chief called the Weather Service again and asked how the winter was looking at that point. The meteorologist said, "We're now forecasting that it will be one of the coldest winters on record!"
"Really?" said the chief. "How can you be so sure?"
The meteorologist replied, "The Indians are collecting wood like crazy!"

Liberals Groping for Program Recognition

Received a note this morning concerning a supposedly Tea Party Group asking the Tea Party to support the Social Agendas of the left.

If any of you received this same request I sincerely hope you will ignore it as I have. The Tea Party was activated only for the purpose of returning America back to the Constitutional Rule as stated in the Constitution of the United States of America. The second purpose was to defeat all incumbants that were raping the Constitution of its integrity. The Constitution speaks no words that support a Social or Welfare program. We should not fall prey to the welfare
mongrels trying to attach their irresponsible ideas into the Tea Party Movement.
The next action of the Tea Party is to prepare to dimiss those charlatans left in
Congress that are coming up next for reelection.
