Some argue that capping DC's access to growth will not hurt, or will only hurt a little bit.  We still have 2.5 trillion dollars coming in.... The problem is the pin action.  2.5 Trillion assumes…Continue

The Trend In Social Security Reform

The trend in Social Security reform should be a concern of every small business in America.  The trend is to make the system bigger, with a wider revenue base by pushing the cost of the system from the covered worker to the general taxpayer.  It is an enormous increase in the revenue reach of the system.      It is important to understand how this change in funding increases the revenue base of the system.  Payroll taxes which fund Social Security can draw up to 15.3% of wages, up to a cap.  So…See More

Who Stole The Money?

If you work with the issue of Social Security for any length of time you will encounter claims that someone stole the money.  I have worked with the issue enough that I have seen the theft attributed to any number of people.  I have seen LBJ, Carter, and Reagan.  I have seen accusations that Bush I and Bush II were responsible.  The only real difference in all of these claims is what you are reading.  If you are on a liberal site, it was Reagan or Bush Jr.  If you are on a Conservative site, it…See More

A Major Step On The Road To Serfdom

Both Republicans and Democrats have competing legislation to extend the payroll tax holidays.  Conservatives should  follow this debate closely because it augers to introduce a massive increase in the reach of Social Security - the pocket of the general taxpayer.  As Charles Blahous, one of 2 public trustees for the system, said "transforming Social Security from what it long has been—a benefit earned by  worker contributions—into an income tax based system more akin to welfare."The tax-holiday…See More

Payroll Taxes And The Future Of Social Security

If you are interested in Social Security, you should be paying close attention to the payroll tax holiday extension debate.  Both parties would like to extend the tax holiday, and both have different means to pay for the holiday.  Both shift the cost of Social Security to someone else.  Whether it is the rich or less government services, someone else is going to pay for Social Security because the system can't pay for itself. Here is what is not being said : The US economy cannot sustain 15.3%…See More
